FASTNACTS

i.e. doughnuts. Gramma's receipe.



Ingredients:
1/2 c. warm water
1 pkg. dry yeast
3/4 c. warm milk
1/4 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 egg
1/4 c. crisco
3 1/2 to 3 3/4 flour

In gramma's words, if you make these after lent you will go straight to hell via a trap door. So, be advised.

Place warm water, milk, and crisco in a pan. Mix 1 1/2 cup flour, yeast, salt, and sugar in a bowl. Add liquid to dry ingredients and mix. Add another 1/2 cup flour and egg and mix well. Add more flour till a nice dough forms and turn onto floured board. Knead 5min, let ride till doubled in size, punch down. Let rise again till double in size, roll out to about 1/2 inch and cut into squares. Let rise one more time for about 1hr.





Pull centers and deep fry in oil.





Place in a container that holds a mixture of brown and white sugar. Close container and shake until coated.



Note: If using rapid rise yeast let sit in warm place for 10min after kneading. Then let rise about 1 hr till doubled in size and punch down and cut into squares and let rise about 1hr til doubled in size. Pull centers and deep fry in oil.
